Some thoughts as we approach Sol’s first birthday. It’s as if I just blinked. From that magical night he was born in our living room, to now. I’m sure time has moved even quicker third time round. And I’m so heartbroken. Heartbroken that he’s growing up so fast, that my other babies are even bigger and that we may never ever do any of it ever again 😔

Feeling all the motherhood feels at the moment. My heart feels pulled in so many directions and the children ask questions that I actually can’t answer. I don’t have an answer for them about why they must go to school all day everyday, that they would understand. Like, does anyone home school?! 🤣 My kids are such nicer people when they’re home for the holidays 😕 When they’re home with me - craft cakes my table, paper is everywhere, the playroom is used, their little clay models litter the house, I’m scrambling to pick up Lego and their imaginations clearly live here. They run outside, thrive in the cold, play with a basketball for hours, ask to fly kites and stomp through mud. But when they’re at school, they come home and slouch in front of the tv barely able to string a sentence together and are fast asleep by 6pm. I hate to see them so exhausted. I just miss their personalities when they’re not where their hearts are, ya know?

It’s newborn season! January and February every year are absolutely full to the brim of new arrivals. And I just feel incredibly blessed to get to photograph the precious early moments for you, in your home, where it’s warm and relaxed and you’re in your magical little bubble. I spoke about it briefly before Christmas but I would absolutely DIE to photograph a birth this year - so please please send me a message if it’s something you’d like to discuss! Having had 3 textbook waterbirths myself, with my sister photographing two of them, I feel like I have so much positivity to bring to a birthing experience and would love the opportunity to try ♥️

I literally haven’t been able to get anything done with all 3 babies home this week, work wise - so we’ve taken lots of walks and made sure fresh air is a priority!

For once I don’t want to take down the Christmas tree! I’m usually ripping it down on Boxing Day but perhaps being away for so much of December has made me want to keep it. I’ve been really suffering with asthma and vertigo since we landed too like a little old lady and really just want to keep my house cosy and safe for now!

What a beautiful session in the winter woods ♥️

Here’s another exciting day in the life of a photographer with three children in tow! We travelled to Scotland from Oxfordshire to shoot a beautiful wedding in Gretna ♥️ I am so eternally grateful for these opportunities but also to my clients always being so understanding and welcoming of my family whilst the baby is still little and breastfed - there is no way I could leave him behind at this point in his life, so I feel so very lucky to be able to bring him along with me! And then in turn.. the rest of the Drewe Crew too 🤣 As Sol is now 10 months old, he only needs a feed every 2-3 hours, so leaving him close by is relatively easy, but it helps knowing my husband is on site somewhere with him should either of the two of us need one another. Here’s to my working mums - we are warriors 🫶🏻 And here’s to the partners who support us to do what we love, despite having three littles. And here’s to the clients for trusting us and forever booking us and allowing us to document your most special memories 🌙

These are the reasons a tiny little photography studio can be absolutely wonderful - despite your worries! • Small and intimate • Warm enough for little babies • Not too expensive to decorate and furnish • Bright white paint and white linen curtains make the space light and airy • You can bring your own 11 month old baby to work with you! • Little ones can explore without escaping! Creating the perfect ‘Christmas Mini’ photo shoot isn’t as easy as it looks, right? Especially when the majority of those shoots will feature children, who may or may not be in the mood for a photo 🤣 My top tips for getting the BEST from those bubbas, include: • Create a scene that looks inviting, but not overwhelming • Allow 5 minutes when your guests arrive for the children to explore, find their feet and get comfortable • Introduce yourself and let them warm up to you before you bring the camera in front of your face - the camera is ultimately a mask; a barrier between you and them - children love eye contact and engaging people • Props - I used hot chocolate mugs, candy cane decorations, fairy lights and Santa hats • Space to move and a few different areas for photos - some children responded amazingly to sitting on the back of the Christmas truck in these shots, whilst others wanted to be stood held by mum or dad and others wanted to ride up front with the steering wheel! That’s my Christmas mini season over and out! 25 incredible families with their beautiful babies, their smiles, their laughter and happiness and I am just feeling so aware tonight of how incredibly lucky we all are to live here in this safe place this Christmas, whilst the rest of the world is so scary. My baby Sol - the best team mate I could ever have asked for ♥️

I often feel so proud of the people I meet. Like, I don’t even know them, their story, how they came to be together - not a clue. But I go into their home, and see the happiness they’ve grown together and just feel an overwhelming sense of pride.
